This means you can mix and match to get the best passive abilities for each character. Once players have learned a passive ability on a job, they can equip it as one of their passive abilities regardless of whether they have that job equipped as a main, a sub-job, or not at all. Or alternatively, you can swap out some damage dealers with some support roles that can buff the party, or debuff the enemy. Parties should be built to encompass a variety of jobs and fulfill different roles, such as a healer, a tank, and some damage dealers. That way, you can benefit fully from all of the abilities and passive abilities of both main and sub-job. To ensure your character is the most efficient it can be, players should level up the job they intend to use a sub-job by temporarily having it set as their main job. Sub-jobs do not level at all while being used but allow access to the active abilities of its role. This level cap can be raised once you reach end game by defeating some bosses. Main jobs that are assigned to characters will continue to level and see an increase in stats and skills until the maximum level is reached (level 12). You can unlock new jobs by collecting Asterisks, most of which will be unlocked via the storyline, but a couple of jobs are entirely optional, and obtaining them requires you to complete certain side quests. You can change your characters' jobs from the main menu at any time other than while in battle. Jobs dictate a character's stats, abilities, and passive abilities.
